“Outraged by the injustice faced by people with disabilities and vulnerable populations,
we aspire to a world of solidarity and inclusion, enriched by our differences,
where everyone can live in dignity”Handicap International is changing his name and becomes « Humanity & Inclusion ». HI, Humanity & Inclusion is an independent and impartial aid and development organisation with no religious or political affiliations operating in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. We work alongside people with disabilities and vulnerable people to help meet their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights.
Since the organisation was first founded in 1982, we have set up development programmes in 62 countries and responded to many emergencies. Today we have a budget of around 150 million euros, with 3500 employees worldwide.
HI is engaged in an employment policy in favour of disabled workers.
For further information about the association: www.hi.org.
CONTEXT:
HI has a unique identity within Armed Violence Reduction sector as a multiple-mandated humanitarian and development organisation, including an advocacy mandate.
This added value allows the organisation to develop an ambitious strategy that focuses on a holistic approach to ensure access to quality services specifically designed to meet the needs of populations affected by armed violence. This strategy foresees an increase of the activity on the coming years in both mine action and conflict transformation (more than 50 projects in 18 countries, with annual income of over €30 millions). HI Armed Violence Reduction Direction is also recognized as a specialist in innovation (use of dogs, or more recently drones combined with infrared technology for mine detection), and will continue to think "outside the box" to accelerate the release of land to affected populations.
HI aims at reducing the impact of conventional weapons on civilian populations; meaning addressing the causes, the instruments, and the immediate effects and long-term impact of armed violence. The humanitarian situation faced by the people we support, and more specifically conflict-affected people, is becoming increasingly complex.
The priority strategy objectives of Armed Violence Reduction Direction include:
- Accelerated land release
- State-of-the-art on Education and risk preparedness
- Increased ownership of victim assistance
- Assertive leadership in conflict transformation
OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the management of the Protection and Risk Reduction Director, the Armed Violence Reduction (AVR) Director contributes to HI strategic axes by ensuring optimal quality and impact of the technical activity under his or her responsibility.
This position includes a wide variety of responsibilities such as the development and implementation of the Armed Violence Reduction Strategy in a diversity of context of intervention (acute crisis, protracted crisis and development settings). He/she oversees scientific and technical excellency for AVR both internally and externally. Representation and development of HI’s external prestige and influence on AVR is a huge focus of the position. As a Director, he/she participates to the strategic decision, contributes to the transformation of the organization and is responsible for the organisation, management and evolution of his/her team.
