Description
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international humanitarian aid organization that provides assistance in more than 60 countries to populations in distress, to victims of natural or manmade disasters and to victims of armed conflicts, without discrimination and irrespective of origin, religion, creed or political affiliation.
CONTEXT
MSF Belgium mission is seeking a Medical Data Processing Officer:MSF's mission in Belgium aims to address, through a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach, the health needs and key social determinants of the most vulnerable segments of the population, including migrants in transit and undocumented migrants, while proactively engaging in assessing main difficulties and promoting institutional change.
The Medical Data Processing Officer working for the Belgian mission will be involved in the Brussels migration project, which includes:
- Active participation in the Humanitarian Hub, where several organisations provide a wide range of services to vulnerable populations. In this structure, mental health care (first line) is provided by Médecins Sans Frontières. A second line service has also been created to provide psychological follow-up and to respond to identified needs.
- An outreach activity initially designed to support the response to COVID-19 in Belgium among the most vulnerable populations. The mobile team (OST : Outbreak Support Team), also composed of various organizations (MSF/NSS/MDM), intervenes in non-accredited structures (such as squats) and accredited structures in terms of awareness-raising, prevention and control of infections, health promotion and referral to psycho-social-medical care if necessary.
- Support in creation of project database, carrying out all activities related to entry of (para-) medical data and interpretation of data, according to MSF protocols and maintaining confidentiality, in order to have reliable and up-to-date information to provide a good service support and reliability of the data collected.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the creation of an adapted database to the needs of the field;
- Enter (para-) medical data (e.g. patient data, dates of visit, type of visit, content of prescription, symptoms, etc.) in project database on a regular basis and according to MSF protocols.
- Ensure accuracy of the (para-) medical data entered into the mission’s database on a regular basis, according to MSF protocols and carry out regular back-ups. Be responsible for ensuring that quality control queries of the database are followed up, ensuring identification of data entry errors and corrections
- Participate in compilation of data both from MSF structures and from collaborating health facilities (data extracted from field interventions in squats, shelters, HUB…).
- Update files of existing patients, make any correction needed, search for missing data
- Provide regular statistical reports for the team as well as informing the superior of any missing information, major changes or big differences in data.
- Train the team, when necessary, on proper registration of patients, proper filling of the various forms, clarifying queries, obtaining missing information and correcting errors, ensuring they have ongoing sufficient supplies of necessary hardcopy data collection forms
- Support the other team members in interpration and creation of data reports and graphs;
- Look after all equipment provided and keep recording area clean and tidy, giving special importance to all patient files.
- Ensure, promote and maintain confidentiality regarding all information registered.
General
- Enter the data related to the project activities in the database.
- Assist with data collection and cleaning of the database.
- Work with the whole multidisciplinary team to improve data collection.
- In collaboration with MHAM and OST team leader, elaborate (qualitative and quantitative) statistical analysis of all activities each month.
- Discuss regarly with MHAM/ OST team leader the data processed.
- Ensure that each team member 's data collection sheet is completed and returned on time.
- Focal point for the database.
Support
- Support the team in identifying direct and indirect cause of patients lost to follow-up.
- Support team in data collection methodolgy and development related to specific activities
- Support the MHAM and OST team leader in the developpment of the database.
- Support team members in the preparation of reference documents such as Sitrep, Power Point presentations, Annual Review of Operations and other information products for meetings.
REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Essential higher education with proven computer literacy, degree in Information and Technology (IT) or mathematics field, desirable
Experience
- Essential 2 years work experience in data collection and management
- Essential in-depth knowledge of MS Excel and techniques for cleaning and identifying errors in data
