Qualifications required
• Education to degree level or above in a relevant field.
• Professional qualification in Human Resource Management and/or;
• previous experience in senior HR management position in an international relief and development organisation.
Necessary skills, competencies and qualities
• Full commitment to and understanding of Mission East’s mission.
• Sympathy with Mission East’s organisational values and identity as a Christian organisation, and an ability to implement HR management solutions which exemplify and strengthen these values in action.
• Excellent English communication skills (spoken and written) are essential; additional languages, in particular Danish would be advantageous (French / Russian useful).

Position Title: Human Resources Director
Location: Brussels, with travel to other Mission East office locations as required.
Responsible to: Managing Director
Management of: HQ HR & Admin Officer, and technical reports from HR focal points in the field.

Overall responsibility
The HR Director is responsible for the management and leadership of all aspects of Mission East’s Human Resources activity as a means of enabling the organisation to fulfil its mission.
Reporting to the Managing Director, and as a member of Mission East’s Management Team, the role combines a day to day involvement in all areas of HR management across Mission East’s HQ and field offices with strategic development of HR activity. In line with Mission East’s organisational values, the HR Director ensures excellence in staffing capacity, support and management throughout Mission East.
Key tasks and responsibilities
Leadership
• Leadership of Mission East HR activity.
• Provision of regular HR updates and briefings to Managing Director, as necessary.
• Coordination of HR Team work with other Mission East teams (Communications, Finance, Operations, IT) via Management Team meetings and additional regular interaction.
• Participation in Management Team meetings and business.
• Reporting the Board on HR matters as required or requested.
Strategy
• Responsibility for compiling HR Strategy, in line with Organisational Mission, Vision and Direction and in coordination with other team strategies.
• Provision of input to other team strategies as appropriate.
• Oversight of HR strategy implementation via a clear workplan.
Recruitment, Retention and Reward
• Liaison with other Mission East teams to ensure strategic development of Mission East’s brand to support the growth of the recruitment pool, and work towards becoming an employer of choice.
• Oversight of recruitment and selection policy and processes
• In partnership with other Mission East teams, provision of advice and/or generation of Job Descriptions and Terms & Conditions.
• Candidate selection and interviewing responsibility.
• Input into key hiring decisions.
• Liaison with the Finance Team to develop and implement Mission East reward systems.
Performance
• Oversight of performance management process and practice across the organisation.
• Promotion of relevant training and development initiatives and increase in training and development activity throughout the organisation.
• Development of personal and professional development practices as a means of enhancing staff retention.
• Provision of advice and support to line managers on performance issues (capability and conduct) and intervention where necessary in cases of serious breach.
Ongoing Employment Support
• Through liaison with other team as relevant, facilitation of career and succession planning processes to encourage staff development and ensure knowledge is retained within Mission East.
• In partnership with Management Team colleagues, formulation and implementation of strategies to encourage employee involvement and participatory practice across the organisation.
• Ensure support is available for all staff to manage well- being issues.
• Management of staff records.
Quality Assurance / Improving Standards
• Ensuring Mission East HR practice complies with legal requirements, good practice guidelines and Mission East policy
• Ensure the development of policies and procedures that enable good working practices and that are accessible and appropriate to all staff.
• Provision of advice in policy implementation and good practice HR management, where necessary.
• Liaison with HR professionals from other humanitarian organisations to facilitate shared ideas, experience and learning.
• Consideration of Mission East’s Christian ethos and values and application of these in all areas of HR practice within Mission East.
Other
• Other general duties which may be required to ensure the HR team helps Mission East achieve its objectives.
