Profile:
The ideal candidate is someone who has extensive knowledge of EU institutions and policies. He/she should have good knowledge in the field of human rights, in particular the right to adequate food and nutrition, and experience with civil society organizations networking processes. We are looking for a dynamic candidate with strong interpersonal, communication and coordination skills. The candidate must have some flexibility to work during the evenings and the weekends and to travel (particularly within Europe, and occasionally in the Global South). The working language is English and the person should be able to work in a French-speaking environment.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in European studies, Human Rights, Political Science, Food and Nutrition, Social Studies, Law or related field—or equivalent experience.
- At least 3 years of work experience with EU institutions and policies.
- Strong analytical skills, particularly in the field of policy and human rights.
- Proven experience of networking with civil society organizations and social movements.
- Proven experience of project management.
- Strong facilitation and diplomatic skills to work with a wide range of civil society groups and social movements, as well as EU institutions;
- Capacity to reach out and coordinate with diverse human rights organizations, social movements’ activists, academics and government officials.
- Proficiency in English and working knowledge of French. Spanish is highly appreciated. Additional languages are an asset.

FIAN International/FIAN European Sections seek a EU Advocacy Officer

FIAN International is an international human rights organization that has advocated for the right to adequate food and nutrition for nearly 30 years. FIAN’s mission is to expose violations and abuses of people's right to food wherever they may occur and to advocate for policies that guarantee the realization of the right to adequate food and nutrition. Its International Secretariat offices are based in Heidelberg, Germany and Geneva, Switzerland. FIAN International has 19 national sections across Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe.
In the context of a new campaign project at EU level, FIAN International and the FIAN European Sections are seeking an advocacy officer for its advocacy work towards the European institutions and to strengthen the advocacy and campaign work of the European sections.
The position will be 80% and will be based at FIAN Belgium in Brussels.
Duties:
- To relay and lead FIAN’s advocacy and campaign work towards the EU institutions, under the supervision of FIAN International (European coordinator)and FIAN European Sections.
- To contribute to the development of FIAN's policy work in the field of the right to adequate food and nutrition at the European level (relevant policies include: development cooperation, trade and investment, agriculture, energy, environment, nutrition, etc.).
- To draft and coordinate the writing of reports, research briefs, position papers, articles etc.
- To implement advocacy and campaign activities at EU level, especially in the frame of the project “EYD2015: Spotlight on the global food-land-climate nexus: mobilizing European support for sustainable management of natural resources and the human right to food . Activities include: organization of speakers tours, seminars and conferences, trainings and capacity building workshops, public activities, press conferences, public campaigns, etc.
- To create synergies and coordinate advocacy and policy work both with the FIAN European sections as well as with the other project partners.
- Networking with civil society organizations and social movements at EU level and participating in the policy work of strategic networks.
We offer:

- 80% position for a 3 years contract (with possibility to renew). The position is based in Brussels in the office of FIAN Belgium (www.fian.be) at 15 minutes’ walk from the EU institutions.
- Gross Annual Salary between 27 578 € and 35 605 € (exact amount depends on experience), + meal vouchers, transport costs and insurances.
