REQUIRED PROFILE FOR THIS POSITION
Level of education/experience
• Master's degree or equivalent in development science, environmental or natural science, engineering, or closely related field.
• Minimum 5 years of work experience in providing technical support and oversight to climate change, resilience and environmental sustainability programmes.
• Significant working experience within development and/or humanitarian sector. • Proven track record in project design and grants acquisition.
Knowledge /Expertise
• Outstanding technical expertise in the field of climate change resilience, adaptation and mitigation Experience in gender-sensitive programming. •
Significant experience in project planning, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. • Well-developed conceptual, critical and analytical thinking with the ability to convey complex information in a simple and interesting way.
• Experience in designing and delivering trainings on climate change, resilience and environmental sustainability with a variety of audiences.
• Excellent negotiation and representation skills and the ability to work comfortably with an ethnically diverse staff in a very sensitive environment. • Ability to effectively advocate for, lobby and present issues at internal and external fora.
• Demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise reports, concept notes and other documentation.
• Excellent coordination, planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage complex tasks within agreed deadlines.
• Language skills: Bilingual NL /EN. Proficient in FR and SP is an asset.

Plan International Belgium is seeking an experienced Climate Change Specialist with strong interest in gender equality and girls’ rights to strengthen its International Programmes Department.
The Climate Change Specialist is responsible for the design and implementation of projects that mitigate and address the impact of climate change on children’s rights and gender equality.
The Climate Change Specialist will design and provide technical guidance to projects and programmes in the field of climate resilience, environmental sustainability, clean energy and energy efficiency.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Development & Programme Management:
- Identify and analyze business development opportunities focusing on climate resilience, environmental sustainability, clean energy and energy efficiency, and the best way to respond.
- Design climate change resilience, adaptation and mitigation projects that enhance children’s rights and gender equality together with Plan International’s country teams.
- Integrate a cross-cutting consideration into projects at design stage, as a cross-cutting consideration. - Support Country Offices in mobilizing resources for climate change programming through programme design, proposal development and writing, and engagement with donors.
- Assist in grant management through participation in project planning, regular communication with country teams, financial monitoring, country visits, and reviewing reports and evaluations of specified projects.
Technical Support & Capacity Development:
- Provide technical expertise and guidance for project planning, design, monitoring and evaluation on climate change resilience, adaptation and mitigation in gender transformative programming.
- Develop capacity building plans, training packages and toolkits, and provide training, coaching and mentorship on gender equality linked to climate change resilience, adaptation and mitigation related issues to programme staff and partners.
- Provide technical support to research and impact studies that contribute to evidence-based and evidence generating programming. - Document and facilitate consistent learning and sharing of good practices among staff and partners.
Coordination and Influencing:
- Contribute to Plan International’s global work on climate change resilience, adaptation and mitigation. - Coordinate and lead the creation of partnerships to strengthen climate change resilience, adaptation and mitigation in our programming.
- Build fruitful professional relationships with key donors (ex: C4C), Global Hub, other national organizations (country offices) where Plan International is present. - Build and maintain relationships with relevant global networks (UN, international and national NGOs).
- Provide content to allow a detailed communication towards different stakeholders and present the project and the way of working towards an audience of sponsors.
