Candidate profile
- Experienced LOG tactician considering that fieldco or HoM experience is an important asset.
- Minimum 5 years MSF experience
- Minimum 2 years in emergency context
- Comprehensive knowledge of logistics in humanitarian interventions
- Experience as project manager or work in a project mode environment is an asset
- Good oral and written communication in English and French (additional language is an asset)

Description
Context
The LOG department opens a position for a Tactician, interest in operational challenges and tactical aspects of the LOG function. Her/his vision as Fieldco/HoM or Emergency coordinator is an important aspect of the profile.
According to the Log vision @ MSF Today Operational Logistics is a very specific and well-known force of MSF. Beyond the fulfillment of basic LOG needs, LOGs is a solution-driven and innovative force that helps to build and realize operational projects.
Purpose
Contribute to build the tactical capacity within the LOG Community.
Provide expertise on a portfolio of LOG scenarios assigned as per the Tactical Team’s Yalta, currently:
- Medical activities in Emergencies: Deployment and support of first aid and primary needs activities with an imposed limited timeframe for implementation
- Distributions: Deployment and support of activities aiming at immunization (preventive and curative), water access, shelter items and/or NFI distribution (protection, primary needs) for population coverage within a predefined execution timeframe.
Mission
- Contribute to the development of the tactical 3rd line support and to the generic tactical base of knowledge (so called pathway project).
- Develop specific documentation, tools and trainings for his/her scenario portfolio.
- Support the enlarged Front Office team (LOGCo and LOGCells) to determine and unfold their tactics (2nd Line support) by means of sparring, collaboration or delegation in agreement with FO.
- Contribute to the creation of a Tactical network of expertise within the LOG Community.
Nature of the function
- Member of the Scenario team together with the other Scenario referent
- Reports in line management to Tactical team leader.
- Collaborates actively with Technical team and Front Office.
Job Profile
- Ensures 3rd line support (base of knowledge) development and its dissemination regarding generic tactical support, the so called Pathway project, within the Tactical team.
- Ensures 3rdline support development and its dissemination on the Scenario Portfolio assigned:
- Documents, guidelines, tools
- Tactical products together with the related technical referents
- Specific trainings
- Creation of internal and external network of med and non-med tacticians
- Ensures the support on 2nd line (contextualized complex operational tactics) to Operations on the definition, planning and deployment of tactics in link with her/his Scenario portfolio by sparring, collaboration or delegation and/or being part of the ad hoc PATIOs.
- Contribute to build a network of the tactical support referents within the LOG Community.
- Contributes to build the LOG community to change the current managerial set up into a participatory and collaborative community to tackle the increase of Operational volume and complexity.
- Leads, within the Scenario Approach project track, the capitalization mode for the lessons learnt on the activities unfolding in the field for the benefit of the LOG Community.
