Description

Opportunities for (BA/MA) students and recent graduates in a research project by Radboud University, the Netherlands (Anthropology and Development Studies)

Looking for an opportunity to contribute to an ongoing research project by doing a research internship? Continue reading about an interesting research project with opportunities for (BA/MA) students and recent graduates.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated research intern with good knowledge of French language that wants to contribute to a meta-evaluation study on the unintended effects of international development. International cooperation often comes with news of corruption and the side effects of volunteer tourism. Yet there is very limited importance given to checking the unintended effects of international cooperation by evaluators. In most project and program evaluations, unintended effects are completely neglected in the research design, data collection and analysis. In our current study, we aim to conduct a meta assessment of the evaluations done by Belgian Development Agency (ENABEL) for their development projects to analyze if unintended effects are taken into consideration by the evaluators.

The study is open to highly qualified and motivated candidates interested in participating in the data collection and analysis stages of the research project. It is possible to write a thesis based on the internship. The internship takes place approximately between October 2024 and February 2025 (or what is possible in relation to your university structure).
If you want to apply, write us a brief letter (in English) describing your interest in the project (including your availability) and your C.V. You can send this to the research co-lead zuneraahmad.rana@ru.nl . Suitable candidates will be invited for an interview with Radboud University during which their motivation and qualifications will be discussed and ways for cooperation will be explored. Are you interested but do you not meet all requirements? We invite you to apply and explain in your motivation letter why you think you are a suitable candidate for the position.

Tasks and responsibilities:
  • Literature search / web search
  • Practical support (e.g., scheduling meetings, providing French to English translation of certain texts, taking minutes)
  • Support in data collection (e.g., manual verification of text mining results in French and English)
  • Processing and analyzing qualitative data
